The new site looks fantastic. Next on the agenda should be an Ipod app!
  • Undead_Bard · 3 months ago
It's much faster and I seem to be able to do anything I could before with ease with the exception of where to log in at. IMHO that a massive A+
  • voxmagi · 3 months ago
Not bad. I like it overall, but I always liked content over bells and whistles anyway, and the content is unchanged and excellent as always.

I did have some slight linking trouble while trying to follow an article prompt to its initial source, but that might be the error of the poster rather than the format.

Format specific, I don't see the easily accessible links to sources that used to grace the top of posts, and that's problematic, because following up an article by reading some of the source material around it is a habit of mine, and Disinfo has led me to many an excellent website. Also looking forward to the inclusion of some archive navigation/search tools, and I hope those are in the works!

Finally, I noticed with great joy that comment functions are accessible through Disqus, which I have been using this past year while completely unaware that it was compatible with this site. It's great to be able to comment here at last, primarily to say thank you.

Disinfo's purpose and my interests perfectly align, and not because I agree with everything I find, since I often disregard or disagree with many things, but rather because I have an unswerving dedication to the unspoken, the hidden, the taboo or verboten. What is relevant is that topics, thoughts, news, commentary and discoveries that might go unspoken in the great grist mill of mass media get coverage here, and even when I disagree I still hold freedom of information to be more important than personal sensibilities.

Thank you, and keep up the good work!

Thanks for your thoughts on DISQUS and all the rest. We hope that the source links will be just as accessible in the new format, it's something we are asking all our contributors to do when they post, place it right at the top of the story.

More archive and navigation tools are in the works, thanks for your patience and stay tuned...

    how do you login?!

    nevermind... :-/
  • Disinformation · 3 months ago
Hit the forgot password link, wait for the email to re(create) your password and you'll be able to log in.
  • 99prozent · 3 months ago
Hi, nice looking site you got yourselves there but i share the problem of the parent poster: i can neither find a "login here" button nor the "forgot password" link. it says "Login below" above the comment section but i can't see any login form?

i now realized that there is no login until i hit the "post as guest" button... would have been more convenient with a more obvious possibility. or am i missing something big time?

    regards,
  • Disinformation · 3 months ago
Sorry for the confusion, the above comment was for contributors, the people who are posting stories. For comments there are numerous options now to post, and post as guest works fine.

We will look into revising to make this more clear. You may want to consider a DISQUS account if you like to manage your comments across the various websites that employ it.

I used to be a big fan of Pseudo and Disinfo until you engaged in that fraudulent dating section. Luring people with a bogus "free personals" and then hitting people up for fees. Very unscrupulous bait and switch that cost you the respect of countless people, myself included.
  • Disinformation · 3 months ago
Those personals were operated by Nerve.com. Most dating services I believe do charge fees, and allow a free trial, so if this is a "bait and switch" tactic, then it's ubiquitous in the online dating industry (Match.com, eHarmony, Chemistry, etc.) Truly "free" dating sites do exist now as the industry has experienced a lot of growth.

We hope you enjoy the format of the new site, and appreciate any feedback regarding it
  • minus1 · 3 months ago
what happened to all the "Newest" posts?, i dont just want to see what other people think is popular.
  • Disinformation · 3 months ago
The newest posts are the large stories you see: like in most blogs, stories are posted in reverse-chronological order. The newest story is right under those three columns.

There may be some overlap for a short while, with the small text you see on the right side for popular stories, as the new platform was just launched.

As said above, we will be adding features in the coming weeks and appreciate your feedback.

I like the visual look of the new site, but so far I've run into a few problems. They may be real problems or problems with my ability to understand hehe. Anyways, here goes:

    - I see no place to login. Sure I can go to submit story, then login, but that seems a confusing interface for a new user. Also, now that I'm logged in, I have no confirmation of that anywhere on the page, the "Hello username" is gone. And it seems like the user databases for comments and story submissions are different, which is just completely confusing to me.

    - Is the voting system gone? All I see is a blog style list of stories, with no other way of navigating aside from chronological and most popular. The old site seemed better for navigating around the content, at least so far. Categories seem to be gone.

    - The scrolling movies and books on the frontpage look great, but they don't go anywhere when you click them. If you go to the store via the banner link on top, you go to the old layout where many of the links are now broken.

    Thats all so far.

I understand the confusion in moving from the old system, everyone, feel free to ask away.

To make a comment, you don't need to log into the site anymore. We are trying a system called DISQUS that allows many ways to log in.

The log-in is for if you want to submit a story. If you're returning to us from the old site, once you're get to that page, please hit the forgot password link, wait for the email, and then re(create) your password and you can log in to post a story.

Yes, the voting system is gone. Now we are recommended that story posters use tags when they create post. All the "categories" you used to see on the old site, are now tags.

We will have more ways to access the material. There are options coming soon that will make this easier.

The online store links (which is serviced by the connextion) need to be changed (sorry for the delay), those will be taken care of soon. The scrolling movie and book links will work if you double-click them. We may change that to a single click if it's easier.

Really appreciate the feedback, and I'd love for you to post to the new site. I think you will find this blogging platform much improved.

I come here often, so I like the idea of a change of layout. Looks....modern, lol.
  • Peetr · 3 months ago
The new site looks GREAT! It loads faster... and I like the ability to comment as a guest... though I'll prolly signup now. (I tried twice before but had problems for some reason or other).

I've been following Disinfo for a few years now since watching the Grant Morrison talk at the Disinfo convention.

Keep up the good work guys... the diversity of stories on this site keep me coming back.
  • dangerousmeme · 3 months ago
Looks good. Cleaner and renders correctly in IE8. Where do I find the newest stories tab now? I only see the popular stories
  • Majestic · 3 months ago
Hi dangerousmeme, the newest stories are the ones you see on the home page, newest first. The most popular stories are ranked in the right navigation area underneath the "Submit Story" link.

What about giving us a chatroom eh? And not the stupid meebo one which is full of bots and no one else uses.
  • Disinformation · 2 months ago
Fletch, we aren't opposed to the idea, do you think all the old disinfo.com chatters would return?

Who in your organization ever came up with the idea of using a devil silhouette as your logo? Using this logo builds distrust as to the root motivation of the organization.
  • Name · 2 months ago
Whom does it build up distrust for? Are you speaking for yourself or everyone on the planet?
  • Disinformation · 2 months ago
Name, don't think anyone is able to speak for "everyone on the planet" — check out the site some more to see what it's about. We encourage people to think for themselves.

My point exactly :) hail satan!
  • dontnormally · 2 months ago
The page doesn't always load correctly. The text always shows up, but the formatting (css?) sometimes doesn't. I could see this making the site look bad to a new user.
  • ralph · 2 months ago
dontnormally, what browser are you using to look at the site?
  • Name · 2 months ago
    Where is the personals link?
  • Disinformation · 2 months ago
Still at http://personals.disinfo.com, we are working to update that page through its provider.
  • cynikill77 · 1 month ago
    Excellent work.
